Welcome to our underground and alternative band review
columns. sit back and relax while we take you deeper into some of S.A's
most brutal and insane alternative and metal bands.
Die Gunstons Rock
and Roll with attitude is the best way to describe this four man
underground Afrikaans rock outfit. Die Gunstons live performances are more then just worth
the while to go and see. With an ever increasing attendance at their gigs around Cape Town and Stellenbosch this group is rolling towards great success. Die Gunstons take me back to the days when I was 7 years old rocking out to my sisters Guns N Roses, Ramones and Sex Pistols cassette tapes. A fond childhood memory. Guitarist George Cooper and Drummer Christiaan Roussow started
their musical journey together around 2004 with their first band Section 8 in their high school days before journeying to Cape Town to pursue their music careers. While looking for a vocalist, Christiaan and George remembered Johan Roussow from Snotpsalm, one of the bands Section 8 competed against in 2005/2006 Rockspaaider battle of the bands. Their search for a bassist came to an end when meeting Wian Steyn at the Assembly. Die Gunstons have an old school blend of party rock and Brit punk. Bringing a refreshing flavor to the usual over killed Afrikaans rock scene that has been flooded with copy cat wannabe bands. Die gunstons makes one want to stick it to the man and lose all control of your senses. Die Gunstons set at Rock of Ages music festival was one to remember with true legendary rock n roll antics. Driven by aggressive yet catchy drum beats from monster Christiaan roussow, flashy rock groove guitar work from alcohol induced George Cooper. Johan Roussows griping and intense stage performance and raw vocals
spits out attitude all flowing into Wian Steyns deep bass growls all fueled by alcohol and cigarettes. The show Ended with misfit teens crammed onto the stage sharing the experience of true rock n roll, forgetting all the worries in today's overly busy world ruled by the grip of popular musical culture. . This is what makes up the ingredients of what is Die mighty Gunstons, sticking it to the popular mainstream music industry over shadowing great underground bands such as Die mighty Gunstons.- Ryno de lange.

![]() ![]() ![]() | This Dying World
There are few words in my mind, and so much to say about TDW and their
music. Five talented youngsters from Cape Town who share the same vision
and same message. Energetic and enthusiastic, their is nothing morbid
about TDW's music, the energy and brilliant stage performance can hold
any crowed till the end and leave them pleading for more, as I witnessed
at The Rock of Ages music festival. This Dying World is a Christian
metal core/hardcore band from Cape Town with international musical
quality. This
Dying World has a stage performance and an energy that few bands in
their age group have. TDW's metal core sound, complimented by Christian
Mills vocals is something to behold. Each member of TDW bring out their
own unique style. Drummer Paul Patterson is as calm as a bomb behind
the drum kit, waiting to set of into a massive explosion. Guitarists Don
Williams and Ryan Dias are complementary musicians to one another, not
missing a single note and always staying on top of each other, to end of
the groups sound is bassist Wimpie Dempsey, with hes beastly curly hair
flying in the air wildly and hes fingers attacking hes fret board with
each note, hes solid bass lines hold the back bone to the finale layout
of what is This Dying World. . . A machine and energy that not many
young metal bands can compete with. This Dying world is pure brutal
metal brilliance. - Ryno de Lange.
